However, as with global warming, the absence of effective action does not mean that we should roll over and accept the status quo or even advocate for bogus alternative science. The most vocal opposition in this country and the US is by people who actually deny that any care is needed and have claimed that the whole thing is a hoax. That is as toxic as the government position and also allows the gangsters to get away with doing nothing more. As I've said previously Cummings couldn't have scripted it better and I would be surprised if he wasn't also involved in promoting such diversion.
I'll keep advocating for realistic effective solutions rather than the alternative denial. The reality is unless a better plan is put in place the status quo means we'll be in and out of lockdown for time to come until it's been through the population and possibly after that. It's not possible to undertake major surgery or cancer treatments when ICUs are full and they are beyond full in November. We are not usually at the point of cancelling operations until mid January and we would have reached that point (without expansion) at least two weeks ago.
The two unknowns are how many of us have had it already and if and when it can be caught for a second time after 12 months is the second infection as bad, worse or better than the first. I'm praying the answers are favourable (ie most of us and better), and I'm not religious. Alternative answers are going to be stressful.
Cheers,
Dan
