For me, I only wear in shops maybe 10 minutes. It's claustrophobic but worse for 8 hrs at time people. In the workshop, I have to make the decision as to whether to put on a ppe mask when doing dusty things, or deal with potential lung problems. Since it usually goes with safety goggles I generally opt for goggles Vs mask because both at the same time mean I can't see what I'm doing. I feel sorry for those who need glasses.
And though I can see the shaky point that large expulsion of big vapour droplets are diminished by a mask, when you're in a shop you're still walking through other people's smaller vapour expelled through the mask anyway, and since it can enter as easily through eyes, and few use their masks as one use, I still have reservations about their efficacy. Seems more like a placebo than anything else. I am fairly certain that this time 2 years back they were emphatically rejected by health orgs as a necessary thibgfor daily use. Which makes me think that it was introduced as a physical reminder that we are in a pandemic more than as a solution.
I've seen a lot of shouting from both sides on the issue but nothing that clearly outlines it effectivenessexcept in controlled tests. Those tests don't mimic adequately the environments we are using them in though.
I wear one just because.
