Re: Rare AstraZeneca Side Effect Exposes Vaccine Cheerleaders
Trial until 2023.. surely means that being sensible unless you're being paid to trial new vaccine it would make sense to hold back til results come in on both efficacy and general safety? Seems like a big issue to roll out on so many people without more modest testing? I'm sure scientifically the concepts are well tested but it seems like a big risk not to tread cautiously until the data comes in for anything. I know in the past this also has not been the case medically, but it would be nice to think the hubris from medical science has learned a little humility from past failed rush to market.
(Sigh) not saying vaccines don't work or that they don't mostly protect populations against infection. Just saying we're it down to me I'd be more careful with state wide rollout before long term trials. Were the mortality in a higher percentage I could see the imperative. The lack of culpability to me is a big concern. It's one thing to say it's perfectly safe but I do believe all companies producing vaccine should put their money where their mouths are.
I'd be interested in Dan's take on it. I've seen him argue facemasks and the govt policy on lockdowns (mostly in agreement, not totally ) but not on the vaccine or politics surrounding them.
