But this seems distinct from saying vaccination of the young will promote vaccine-resistant strains, unless what is actually being proposed as the alternative to vaccination is a pandemic among the young i.e. ‘herd immunity’. In which case, surely, the proposal is, effectively, an unrestrained pandemic leading to higher probability of vaccine-resistant trains arising in the first place? This is the logic that escapes me.
The standard strategy to avoid resistance is double or triple therapy: That is why anti-HIV cocktails contain TWO protease inhibitors PLUS one RT inhibitor, and that is why the Regeneron cocktail contains monoclonals against TWO epitopes on spike.
And also, I would say that the current vaccines are not monoclonal, they are monospecific: Almost the whole of the spike protein is expressed in all cases, and it inevitably has many epitopes ...
And by the way thanks for what you do here and what you do in the world: Being educated is not the enemy of the truth. You probably have to fight both elitism at work and simultaneously anti-elitism here, I know how it goes, you have the most amazing patience as a sign of your commitment, and provide an amazing space, here, that I am sure means a lot to many different people.
