No Labour leader would be in a good position to win Hartlepool at the moment
letters -- The Independent
Other excuses in the Independent -- Labout activists have "stayed at home" because Covid has prevented them going out and spreading the message. Luckily for the tories, their activists were unaffected by Covid and were able to roam freely and campaign as usual.
The truth about "Labour activists" is this. My local Labour candidate for the council (who got chucked out several years ago and is standing for re-election) emailed me asking if I'd deliver leaflets, as I had during the 2017 and 2019 elections. I emailed back saying I wouldn't support Labour as long as Keir "block of wood" Starmer was in charge. Also, this candidate was part of a Labour-run council in the so-called Red Wall of which only one councillor supported Corbyn. They are thrilled to have Starmer as leader. Well then, they must accept the consequences.
