This discussion came about as a result of me, Der, pointing out that people condone many things if they believe those things are done to keep them safe.
Many people are certainly casual about the way black people are treated and by their silence condone such treatment. I put that down to fear of black people. People tend to assume that the high presence of black people on the wrong end of the criminal justice system is because black people are not to be trusted. And may even be dangerous.
Incidentally an encounter with the Criminal Justice System can impact very much on how society will see you. And treat you.
For example, having a criminal record can impact negatively on one's job prospects. Consequently it can impact one's entire life.
It would be interesting to know what percentage of black people have criminal records and compare that with the percentage for white people. Black people certainly seem to get more than their fair share just going by that article.
And follow that up to see what types of jobs each do.
