It's almost as if the public aren't mostly the rabid right wingers they're often implied to be (by right wingers and liberals alike), as opposed to mostly supporting things like public ownership (as long as no media-generated Pavlovian hate reactions against any bearded people get in the way). Bit like the heavy implication from much media that most of the public have all been chafing against all the covid rules just like the tory grandees, but all the polling said pretty much the opposite. This is 'constructing a public' isn't it (is it Habermas' phrase?) - like with push polling, getting people to say 'everyone thinks such and such - there must be something in it...' is the goal. Of course that's not to say we're all commies and no-one noticed.
