Re: Ken Loach: We are at a unique moment for the left -- but time is running out
So his advice is to stay in the Labour party and fight the class struggle there? Oh, and wait around for inspiring leaders to form an 'independent labour movement' that will have one foot in the Labour party and one foot out. Hmmm, I wonder which way the compromises will go in a situation like that? Surely it should be clear by now, as Corbyn himself proved, that if you rely on leaders they will be bought, disciplined, co-opted or otherwise destroyed by the political machine. I think the same dynamic operates here as in the US with the DNC: the popular energy gets corralled and led into the party machinery, using the leaders (Obama, Sanders, AOC et al) as bait, and in a couple years it's indistinguishable from the rest of the pro-corporate, corrupt, warmongering party apparatus and the populist organisers have to start again from square 1.
Loach should be pummelling the party that stabbed him in the back & ejected him in the most dishonest, dishonourable way possible. It has shown itself as not worthy, incapable of - and actively resistant to - change, over and over again. It deserves to atrophy & die, and that's arguably the best thing that could happen for the working class at this point, ie: remove the false hope. Loach should know this better than anybody by now, yet he's still not willing to cut his losses and put energy into building something new. Another great example for not waiting around for 'leadership' figures to do things for you.
