Heard that over at Jazz FM in the series "The Definitive History of Jazz in Britain" episode 4 "The 1950s". (Or maybe episode 5 "The 1960s"). That (one of them) was a time when many BBC programmes had a jazz theme tune - the Avengers, for example.
Feck all jazz available on the beeb these days.
Just taken out a Premium sub to Jazz FM (free for the first month) n catching up on stuff I missed earlier.
Incidentally, when The Beatles arrived it nearly spelled the end of Jazz, as record producers and agents abandoned the Jazz Trad world in droves.
I reckon Covid has done immense harm as well...
Just been checking up on the lineup for the 2022 (no 2021 - Covid came along) North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam. The top 3 acts aren't even jazz. Not in my book anyway. I had a very small book, mind. Parker, Gillespie, Christian, Monk, Coltrane, Miles (some of it) - that's about it. Though Wynton Marsalis and a few others are encroaching recently.
Trying to get rid of my book. It's hard work. But, got to give the guys of today a chance...
