It is my understanding that Chevron,in particular,obtained a sweetheart deal from Nazarbayev back in the 90's. This to obtain modern oil extraction technologies. The world has moved on... Russia, China, and Iran all have modern oil extraction techologies in their domestic oil majors. Chevron is dispensable.
It would be a fitting riposte to NATO's push back, to seize the concessions from Chevron and the other NATO oil majors, and hand them to a local/CSTO oil major under better terms for Kzahstan.
