I was shocked by how hostile, and lacking in eloquence, his statements about Iran and Russia were. Of course his "interviewer" did not challenge a thing he said, and treated him as a magisterial, wise old oracle.

I had read several of his books, and had really thought highly of him until then. Now, I rank him with the likes of William Shawcross [1], Michael Burleigh [2] and Richard Pipes.
