I haver written this letter to reply, I doubt it will be published. The Dominion Post in Wellington might, but the NZ Herald is unashamedly a lackey to the US, right wing politics, neoliberalism and corporate interests, especially its own.

Dear Sir / Madam

Today's NZ Herald has a strident article from NewsCom.au. “Russian and Ukraine could be days away from war” - this is unadulterated propaganda exactly as in Iraq, Syria or Libya. NewsCom.au is one of Rupert Murdoch’s numerous poisonous tentacles that violate the democracies of Australia, the US and the UK, whose political interference in these countries is constant and ruinously effective, unlike Putin’s minor incursions. Following the USSR’s dissolution, NATO gave Russia repeated solemn assurances that it would not expand eastwards, reneging with each accessing country. Ukraine is the corrupt child of the US’s $7 billion expenditure fomenting the so-called “colour revolution”. For Russia, a NATO allied Ukraine on its doorstep it the last straw; a serious, genuine threat to Russia’s own security, totally ignored in the West’s aggressive posturing. Ukraine has no right to demand NATO membership, only mischief is making NATO promote this. The obvious answer is to agree to Ukraine’s permanent neutrality, much as the now thriving democracies of Finland and Austria had to agree with Russia after WW2. Ukraine pursuing the USA’s belligerent, expansionist agenda is that of a failing power manipulating a failing state, to disastrously fail its own citizens and future.
