Beyond the 'intermittency problem', the use of 'renewables' was only ever going to be in addition to rather than a replacement for the continued use of fossil fuels. It adds to 'growth' and attracts subsidies for 'green' capitalists, all beneath a 'woke' veneer.

Off the top of my head, wind and solar require prodigious amounts of concrete, steel, copper, pure silica, rare earths, the precursors to which have to be extracted and processed using fossil fuels and often toxic chemicals.
