And in stark contrast to most unsung, unthanked activists and subversives, he is admired even adulated by countless millions - perhaps even a few billion - of his fellow humans.
And before Assange was forced to seek asylum in the Ecuadorian embassy, most of us had assumed he and Wikileaks had a well thought-out, well-rehearsed last-minute escape plan - like Snowden.
But we wrongly assumed that a top Enemy of the State(s) like Assange and his Wikileaks colleagues would have fully anticipated from the outset that the US would eventually begin doing everything in their diabolical power to nab him, grab him and wipe him out.
So why did Wikileaks not originally set up base in a country like Equador - or relocate later - pre-emptively ?
They must have either signifantly underestimated the psychopathic quasi-satanic nature of America's full-spectrum Control+War Machine - or/and must have too-optimistically believed that international and domestic laws and smart combative lawyers would prevent the worst from ever happening.
It will obviously incense almost everyone who's rightly demanding Assange's liberty that I've had the gall to state here what many have secretly thought or privately confided.
But we're all heroic free-speech fans here, right?
