I'm not sure about the speaking excellent English comment, in my experience, the majority of well-educated Germans speak excellent English and French or Spanish too. However, it's still pretty likely these three were selected for their war-narrative supporting views. Checking this out, nearly 60% speak English well enough to get by, younger Germans tend to speak very good English. (computer use, international outlook, travel etc) Whether this might change with the UK leaving the EU will be interesting to see.
