"It puzzles me that there is no real opposition, anywhere from the left."

As I implied, its because we don't have a "left". The entire political class have been deliberately selected to be craven creatures. Anyone showing even a knicker-frill of original thought, principle or morality is weeded out: either ruled out by the political parties before getting anywhere near power, or if perchance they do get smuggled into the political machine under the radar they will then be assassinated by the media, stamped on for deselection, or both.

The survivors of the vetting process who have attained entry into the political class are thus preselected to be supine and now "belong". As such are very susceptible to "Groupthink": an unremarkable word but a dangerous phenomenon:

"Groupthink...occurs when a group of individuals reaches a consensus without critical reasoning or evaluation of the consequences or alternatives. Groupthink is based on a common desire not to upset the balance of a group of people."


All they need do is ignore all prior events and follow the endlessly reinforced mantra:
"Unprovoked attack on Ukraine...started last year... Russia... dangerous expanding Imperial state..." and the inevitable conclusion and consensus they all reach is: "Russia must be stopped...".

No "critical reasoning" is applied and no "evaluation of the consequences or alternatives" is made. They just "know" they are right.
