Chris Trotter is a self-described "socialist" commentator with a big following in New Zealand. Much of what he writes and says is very good, but there's a dark side to him as well: he's a Russiagate conspiracy nut, and he's one of the most brutal traducers of Julian Assange.

As well as that, he regularly lapses into windy homilies, like this one following the Not Guilty verdict for the killer of Trayvon Martin in 2013: "I think all this talk about the jury is most unfortunate. You have, even in this case I think, to trust the jury. In any trial, there are always items of evidence that we do not know about, even in this case I think."
