Given your respect for Chinese science and engineering I do hope you won't be denouncing the PRC, together with its public health officials, scientists and doctors for the Nation's Zero Covid policy, a policy that worked for almost 3 years and saved millions of lives.
Indeed, as someone who faced three full years of restrictions and special measures, deaths from Covid in the HKSAR were considerably less than in nations such as Wales and Scotland - the stats are startling.
Further, I also trust you'll celebrate the fact that Chinese scientists and pharma businesses were able to develop and produce multiple Covid vaccines without making outlandish claims about them at breakneck speed.
Indeed, and given major concerns about mRNA derived vaccines, only this week have the Chinese authorised emergency use of its first Covid mRNA derived vaccine, although some may say its a little late now, alas, the real news here is Chinese vaccine science is now up there with Western peers, again though, no extravagant claims are made for said vaccine, apart from the fact it can be used on humans.
I also hope you'll congratulate China in actually eradicating Covid outbreaks via stringent lockdowns and travel restrictions, whilst maintaining the operation of its health services - this was certainly the case in Hong Kong, i.e., no cancelled visits to see hospital consultants and full access to all necessary medical treatments, among them cancer treatment and major surgical procedures - gosh, we even get to see a real doctor when unwell, this being the case throughout the crisis.
With regards the abrupt change of course by Chinese authorities towards its Zero Covid policy at the year end, many citizens having had enough of lockdowns, the Chinese authorities had full data derived from Hong Kong's experience of combating and living with the Omicron variant after a major breach of quarantine by two airline employees over the Xmas Holiday period of 2021, whilst over the course of 12 months this claimed 10,000 lives in the HKSAR, the fact was this variant was far less lethal than the original SARS-COV2 virus, and, given a high vaccine rate of the population of vaccines derived from traditional, tried and tested methods, the nation was able to achieve significantly lower mortality rates than the USA.
We have much to laud and many lessons to learn, the first of these being preparedness, which China and my own location are rather good at implementing unlike Western peers. I for one will not apologise for supporting these measures that saved millions of lives, although, given the realities on the ground in the HKSAR by 1st April 2022 a relaxation of travel restrictions would have been apt, alas this did not happen until 1st of November 2022 with all restrictions and special measures removed at the beginning of this month.
