Yet you can still admire in its horror the courage and patriotism of these men, many of who will die or be maimed for life. But then I'd feel exactly the same about the soldiers they're going to fight. The trouble being of course that courage and patriotism are not the same, indeed often the converse, of honour and humanity, and most definitely the deadly opposite of rationality.
