John, that was a nice tribute to Rhys and your closing sentence caused me to reflect - as I often do - on why disputes amongst those who would regard themselves as being on the left (although I increasingly feel that 'left' and 'right' no longer have much meaning) are often so very bitter.

Why is it that there is often so much difficulty in believing that people of goodwill and integrity can look at matters and come to a different conclusion about them to ours? I've seen it on this board a zillion times - feminism, Brexit, Covid, climate change to name but a few have produced much rancour with people often withdrawing from further engagement after particularly vicious spats.

It's often said that if you disagree with a right-winger, they simply believe you are wrong whereas left-wingers believe those who disagree with them are evil. Could that be at least partially true?
