Makes you wonder where they got their information from. I note two of them were in Rojava before going to fight in Ukraine. The US military and intel was/is supportive of that celebrated 'social experiment' and the associated YPG to suit its aims in Syria and possibly Turkey as well. It doesn't sound like any of them spent time in conflicts where western powers were the aggressor, which would undoubtedly have given a different perspective. In another article one Russian dissident calls leftists who 'support' Putin 'idiots' because:
'The left sees Putin’s Russia as an alternative to NATO, as a rival to NATO. In a sense, they are right: Russia is indeed opposed to NATO. But they do not see, and do not want to see, that the Russian alternative means only a desire to pursue its own, independent but equally (if not worse) imperialist policy.' - https://www.thecanary.co/global/world-analysis/2022/10/09/leftists-supporting-putin-are-idiots-say-anarchists-from-ukraine/
But I've always understood that Russia will have its own geopolitical interests that it will be advancing through the war, which is why I don't 'support' either side. However it's clear that NATO and the US finally hitting hard limits to their hegemonic expansion is a very good thing, potentially for millions around the globe. Liberation movements will likely be far more successful as a result if they're able to play the different power blocks off eachother rather than simply getting squashed by the dominant US imperialism. If you go into conflict zones with naive ideas about 'supporting the struggle of the people' without any analysis of how you might be getting used as a pawn in a great power game (or indeed, any reflection about why you've chosen these people to defend, instead of countless others facing similar atrocities) then it's difficult to see how your actions are going to have any positive benefit.
Garbage from the Canary to present these people as heroes or martyrs for others to emulate without making any effort to examine this simplistic & ultimately propagandistic narrative. It's Paul Mason level stuff.
