The writer interestingly doesn't seem to be interested in how this happened.
It wasn't some organic growth of "society" that did it: it came to society top down through our esteemed politicians who imported it from the US.
Likewise the idea that this whole crock is "leftist" is yet another idea being sold to us by the US. Identity politics by its very nature is guaranteed to fracture left wing unifying notions of social or class solidarity: common-wealth or common good, which is what I presume its promoters intended.
It's narcissistic in the way that most right wing libertarianism is: to do what they wish with no restraints put upon themselves by government or other bodies: yet apparently have no qualms about depriving others of their own rights through their actions: no idea of the obligations of the social contract by which they claim their very own "freedom".
