Journalists are appointed to their positions on the ladder, or rigid hierachy of reporting, specifically for their ability not to think 'above their pay grade'. They are, essentially, servants of the corporate state these days. This could be because the brief period of 'openess' in society, roughly a quater century from 1950 til 1975, has been closed down, as the 'liberal west' looses control with the world.
