Crooke has a far more pessimistic view, than, for example, Craig Murray. But Murray is an optimist and believes in the fundamental power of intelligence, rationality, reason and realism in international politics. That's probably a terrible mistake. Just examine the slide towards conflict involving the Great Powers during WW1 for numerous examples of the opposite.
