This problem, between the real world and the narrative world, recogizing it, goes back a very long way indeed. At least back to Plato and the shadows on the wall of the cave analogy.
In essence our modern Western culture is dedicated to not knowing the difference, and increasingly so, as the real world distances itself from the narrative world by leaps and bounds.
