I was listening to Frank Gardener, the BBC's chief... something or another, they have this hierachy of titles that are hard to follow, anyway, I could hear Frank's brain putting on the breaks, screaching to stop what he was saying coming to the obvious, but wrong, conclusions about what Israel was up to in Gaza. Poor Frank, one felt sorry for him. That the goal in Gaza is to ethnically cleanse the place of Palestinians and the Israelis are using military terror and virtual genocide to achieve this goal, is obvious for anyone with half a brain; yet, for Frank and others, this is a terrible and forbidden conclusion to reach, so they have to force themselves not to go there, because if they did this would be a career destroying step too far. It would, and this is probably even more important, completely trash everything they've been brougt up to believe about the nature of the West and western values. The entire edifice, the fragile house of cards would start to fall, if the West's moral superiority is a huge lie and our real values are, in fact, the opposite of what we say they are, because our actions, like Israel's speak louder than words.
