Sackur is the perfect, absolutely typical BBC hack, straight out of the mold (or should that be mould) asking a question and then interrupting before Levy can properly answer. The questions are loaded, the bias dead obvious. Levy is one of very few Israeli journalists critical of the government, and for that reason he is shunned and vilified in Israel, an obvious target for the BBC.
Despite the interruptions and loaded agenda, Levy is fantastic. He never loses his cool, remains at all times in control, polite and reserved. His demeanour is impeccable.
To my mind he expresses the currant situation in the calmest and clearest of terms -- certainly unique amongst Israeli commentators -- with logic and a realistic long-term perspective that so many others lack. He understands that what Israel is doing in Gaza will rebound in world-wide condemnation, and far from being the "victory" it desires could lead to ultimate catastrophe.
I must grudgingly give the BBC and the despicable Sackur some credit for doing the interview at all and for showing it. But you will have to grit your teeth while he trots through all the tired old western tropes, of which he is a prime establishment mouthpiece. And he looks so serious, and so earnest, peering gimlet-eyed over his specs, a look he's practiced in the mirror. Bet he thinks he's in the Robin Day class. Poor fella.
