'A Green Party spokesperson said: "The Rochdale Green Party candidate has said that he has 'decided to leave the stage' following social media posts made some years ago. As nominations have now closed, his name will still appear on the ballot. However, he will not take part in any campaigning between now and polling day.
"We do not comment on disciplinary matters regarding Green Party members. These are internal matters." '
Otten himself 'did not expand on the content of the social media posts', dutifully falling on his own sword:
'The Green message is too urgent and too important to be distracted by some regrettable social media posts I made a number of years ago. In the interests of the Green Party I have decided to leave the stage.' - https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/green-party-candidate-rochdale-decides-28587313
Why so coy? Did they get a threatening letter from the CAS? Or deliberately throw their candidate to ensure one of the establishment parties won? Very weird... Also a highly damaging precedent that someone can be excluded from the democratic process and smeared in public without their comments even being available for scrutiny. Are we already at the stage that the Party declares X to be disloyal, thus they must be disappeared - and to question this decision is itself a sign of disloyalty?
Troubling...
