Might be worth the government, the opposition, the media and Sky interviewers recalling the origins of the word "Democracy" δεμος - κρατια - demos, the people, kratia, rule. The people were there. Noisy, involved, all democratic rule arises from below never from above.
But I recall he faced exactly the same in a previous by-election where he beat a minority candidate, was it Marr who started "aren't you ashamed to have won this seat from a minority British citizen" (I paraphrase but it's accurate enough) I've listened to a discussion on a BBC podcast - nothing but sarcasm and dismissal.
