MOSCOW, April 18 – RIA Novosti. The Russian Embassy in Berlin received a notice that it is undesirable for Russian officials to participate in commemorative events on the occasion of the 79th anniversary of the liberation of concentration camp prisoners, said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.
“It’s impossible to say, it’s also impossible to believe, but our embassy in Berlin received a notification about the undesirability of the participation of official representatives of Russia in commemorative events on the occasion of the 79th anniversary of the liberation of prisoners of the mentioned “death factories.” Those very officials of our country who were the last For decades, they made the meaning of their lives the preservation of the memory of the Great Patriotic War and the Second World War, who invested their own forces, who worked, fulfilling their duties, combining them with the implementation of a civic position to preserve historical memory and defend every monument in Europe that was demolished,” she said during a briefing Thursday.
“We regard and consider this provocative attack as another step by the German side, aimed at further politicizing in an anti-Russian vein the historical memory of the course and results of the Second World War. We believe that this is the destruction of the historical memory and truth about the Second World War by the official Berlin, which is clearly behind such an attitude and which also stimulates this attitude,” Zakharova emphasized.
The German authorities have still not responded to the note sent to the country's Foreign Ministry by the Russian Embassy in March of this year with a demand to officially recognize the crimes committed by the Third Reich on the territory of the USSR during the Great Patriotic War as acts of genocide, an official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry indicated. “I want to assure the German side that they will not be able to remain silent and avoid answering,” she added.
