The Ministry of Health (MOH) has recently updated its information on puberty blockers on its website to remove the words "safe and reversible" - but still endorses the Professional Association for Transgender Health Aotearoa (PATHA) guidelines, which states they are "considered to be fully reversible".
Pharmac data showed the total number of nine to 17 year olds on puberty blockers had increased from 137 in 2010 to 703 in 2020. (correcting for population that 703 represents 9800 in UK terms, even the Tavistock couldn't manage that ) It would be interesting to know just how many of these prescriptions were written by Dame Sue Bagshaw, (quoted in my reference) who's enthusiasm one wonders could be taking the form of a crusade. (Dame Bagshow is a hugely well regarded doctor in regard to the care of young people, setting up clinics where needs were. Tragically her son Andrew was working as a volunteer aid worker in Ukraine and was killed last year.
A through professional disinterested review by Prof Hilary Cass cuts little ice among transgender enthusiasts here

who weigh in on her report PATHA president Jennifer Shields said the Cass Review "ignores the consensus of major medical bodies around the world and lacks relevance in an Aotearoa context". (without specifying how exactly the NZ context raises children so differently from other western nations that UK science is not appropriate) And this is exactly the problem, a self-appointed and somewhat self-righteous clique of activists and professional treading blindly where wise angels might wish to tread a bit more rationally and kindly, and thereby doing a huge disservice to science, medicine and probably many of the children they're so happy to "affirm"
