I'm not all that interested in grand strategy but it's significant that the Western Allies wanted a Soviet offensive at the same time and the Russians agreed to it, Bagration beginning about a fortnight after D-Day. I see it more as an alliance of convenience in which some of the people involved looked forward to the state of the post-war world and some didn't. During the Cold War, the foundation of the wartime alliance, the destruction of the German army and the occupation of Germany continued until 1991. On the whole I think that the Cold War was a fraud.
