Newspaper headlines after July 4th heralded Starmer's win as a St Crispin's Day moment
Last Saturday's headlines in many newspapers were truly comical - the FT (Voice of the People natch) spoke for most with "Now the Work Begins" - ah, I love me a media love-in and it's just so cute how supposedly intelligent and educated journalists pretend to believe that Starmer's 'pledge' to rebuild trust and Britain had any substance at all. For much of the media, his election heralded a St Crispin's Day moment - while old men forget, we few, we happy few who were alive on July 4th will always remember where we were when Labour's victory was announced. He's clearly The Chosen One so the stance on Ukraine was to be expected. Nothing in this country works properly any more - we can't fix pot-holes in roads for heaven's sake. Our armed forces would fit into Wembley Stadium; we can't field a ship that can go more than a couple of miles without breaking down and we have to buy American turkeys for the RAF to fly. But, man, can we posture and strut on the world stage. We're led by fools - dangerous times ahead.
