(2) AI. He professed to being in a panic about the gravity of progress in AI and called for a moratorium. Now, he is building his own AI that will absolutely dwarf all existing ones, via a $10 billion purchase of the latest B-100 Blackwell chips from NVIDIA:

The speed of progress at NVIDIA is actually a story worth following:
So anyway, regarding Musk, #2 is easy to explain: He was in a panic over being behind in the race for the world’s first AGI/ASI (artificial general intelligence/artificial superintelligence). Assuming the $10 billion purchase is true (I suspect it is because I am pretty sure it is multiply-sourced), it seems to be a race to dominate the world, and therefore seems pretty close to objective proof that Musk, in contradiction to his image of speaking truth to entrenched power in pursuit of a better world, is in fact disingenuously and furtively pursuing world dominating power of his own, for no obviously altruistic cause. So what about #1 above? How does his demographic argument fit the model of a race to dominate the world? Answers on a postcard please.
