French President Emmanuel Macron has been cynically obstructing democracy for almost two months, so why is Keir Starmer gleefully palling around with him?

Keir Starmer has been in Paris for a photo opportunity with the doyen of the extreme-centre Emmanuel Macron, despite the fact that Macron has spent the best part of two months cynically trying to keep the French left coalition out of power after they came first in the July legislative elections (a coalition that actually includes Labour’s own sister party!).
To make matters even worse, Starmer’s publicised his visit by whipping up xenophobic sentiments with a Twitter post railing against immigration on the very same day he posed as a defender of "progressive democracy" and claimed that he wanted to "inspire hope" by opposing "the snake oil of populism and nationalism"!
It’s utterly absurd how brazenly Starmer contradicts his own words and stated principles, and how Britain’s depraved media class let him get away with this gaslighting bollocks time and again.
How can he pretend to be a champion of "progressive democracy" in the morning, then suck up to the guy who is cynically obstructing progressive democracy in the afternoon?
How can he chastise "the snake oil of populism and nationalism" in the morning, then deliberately court extreme-right xenophobes by railing against immigration in the afternoon?
Consider the epic double standards on display from Keir Starmer and the servile client journalists in the British media who refuse to properly criticise anything he does.
Just imagine the deafening howls of media outrage if anyone from the left paid a visit to the likes of Vlad Putin, Nicholás Madero, or Ali Khamenei at any time, let alone if they were in the process of cynically and brazenly trying to steal an election win away from their political opponents.
But Starmer can cosy up to a guy who has invented one lamentable excuse after another for preventing the French progressive left from realising their election win (purely because it would mean an end to his own party being the main party of government), and somehow there’s not the faintest whiff of criticism.
The contempt for democracy is absolutely palpable, especially in light of all of the anti-democratic rule changes, diktats, stitch-ups, and purges within the Labour Party since Starmer lied his way into the leadership in 2020.
But then contempt for democracy is far from the only thing that Starmer and Macron have in common. They both despise the genuine left; they both cut their political teeth by cynically sabotaging their own parties from within when the leadership was to the left; and they’re both more than happy to regurgitate and legitimise extreme-right rhetoric rather than clearly and consistently condemning it (for example: Macron’s deeply controversial anti-immigration reform, and Starmer’s outrageous attack on Bangladeshis during the general election).
The extreme-centre loathes the genuine left; utilises the rhetoric and policies of the hard-right; and openly despises democracy and people power.
Starmer’s willingness to pal around with Macron as he’s spitting in the face of democracy is illustrative of his true character, and should leave the British public wondering how tightly he’ll also try to cling to power once his own popularity plummets as hard as Macron’s.
The last working-class hero in England.
