We didn't see it. There was nothing to see. Even when we saw it we didn't see it. It didn't matter. It was of no interest.

Human beings seem to have an infinite capacity to deny reality even when that reality is in plain sight. Even when not recognising that reality leads to destruction and is understood to do so at some level.
