I hadn't seen this graph until now but the temperatures in August were a new record for the month, where July merely met the 2023 record. And we are now past El Niņo and in a neutral going on to La Niņa phase. We must recall that the later half of 2023 gave all climate scientists a total shock, the level of the excess heat in the atmosphere was well beyond any prior calculations and modelling. To have this record heat now is even more alarming and confirms, I believe, the climate modelling is actually underestimating the likely accelerating temperatures and the positive feedbacks in climate change. James Hansen has been saying as much for a few years, and has had to resist pushback from other climate scientists, such as Michael Mann. .
I suspect record ocean temperatures to a greater depth than previously measured relate to this - the ocean is losing some of its capacity to moderate atmospheric temperatures and it now in fact carrying heat around the planet and releasing this heat in some areas to the atmosphere above. My own theory, please note,
You can see this graph and more graphs besides here - particular check out the hemispheric graphs by clicking on the links, showing the much more rapid rise in the northern hemisphere and higher northern latitudes. . As I previously noted, climate scientists failing for the most part to point this out.

The European Copernicus site has some excellent graphs and maps, look at the temperature anomaly for the N Atlantic for instance.
