For a while one area where Russia/Iran have been considerd "ahead" (if there's ever a winner in an arms race) is hypersonic missiles but the US seem to have developed some form of those now in the AGM-183A.

That article is heavy on salivating, light on actual results and outcomes mind you.
The US focus has seemed to be on defence against hypersonics rather than making their own (with the exception of the one noted above), but I can't see them tolerating a "missile gap" (an actual real one this time!) for long.
...no amount of cajolery, and no attempts at ethical or social seduction, can eradicate from my heart a deep burning hatred for the Tory Party...So far as I am concerned they are lower than vermin.
