When you look at the 16 years between the last attempted Israeli incursion into Lebanon (2008), and now, which is the time taken for Israel and Hzbollah to reload and have another go: In recent times this is almost the whole time between the end of WW2 and the Cuban missile crisis. During the equivalent time between 1914 and 1930 all the borders of west asia were redrawn and there was a rise of communism, rise of Stalin and a fundamental economic collapse in the US.
Looking at just the ~6 months between the first Iranian missle strike in April and the second in October, whole campaigns of WW2 were waged and completed during this time: The period between the D day landings and the surrender of Germany only lasted 11 months.
I am sure better historians than I will find critique in this view, and in fact I welcome other views because I would hate to be in agreement with Francis Fukuyama, but I need help :-)
Anyway, it was just a thought.
- Francis Shyakuyama.
