Sandu is keen on eventually joining NATO. OK I can understand why eastern Europeans might not have liked the USSR, but the USSR no longer exists, and Russia is nothing like the same.
Yes, another simplistic binary choice for a poverty struck tiny nation that would more usefully and safely preserve a bit of self interest and its own sovereignty by staying neutral and playing one big player off against the other. Don't mention of course that the referendum on seeking EU membership was 50.35%. Yet 0.35% was enough, according to Moldova's supreme court, to enshrine seeking EU membership in the country's constitution.
20% of the electorate don't even live in the country, the diaspora, overwhelmingly voting for Sandu, apparently and helped to get over the referendum rubicon, just. ,. Foreign interference anyone?
What is the matter with our leaders and in the media? The lack of common sense, diplomatic thinking and keeping things calm and collected and not stirring the pot - this winner/loser mentality. It'll kill us all eventually. .
