I doubt it. It feels to me like an attempt to get work that is probably not definitive published in a high profile journal by incorporating AI. With only a couple of Neanderthal complete genomes available, comparing with 2,000 modern human genomes, it seems hard to make a case that the work can be definitive. It seems incremental only, but hyped into a high profile journal by the application of AI, from whence it is stovepiped into the popular press. From there it is but a short step to the discrediting of science if there is an incentive to do so. - Shyaku |
