From Beirut, Craig brings the enormity of this disaster into sharp focus. It's hard not to become utterly depressed and devoid of hope when looking at the bleak reality of what has happened. The collapse of the Syrian government looks inevitable from the rate of losses it has sustained in just a week. I hope this assessment is wrong but even if the Syrian government can turn the tide, it will come at a massive cost in terms of economy and human lives. Is Russia/Iran capable or even willing to roll back US/Israel/Turkish infiltration of well over half of Syrian territory?
