AFAIK, Castro n Che Guevara released all the prisoners after the Cuban Revolution.
I would like to think the Bolsheviks did the same. Though looking at the speed with which they set about filling the prisons I fear the principle was rather lost on them.
Any revolution worth it's salt would release all those who, one way or another, disagreed with the previous regime.
A revolution is surely for everybody. Or do we keep prisoners locked up? Some revolution that would be. And mighty poor socialists that would make us.
