I remember well a Channel 4 News at 7 report from 10ish years ago with an introduction by a very serious toned and animated Jon "Six Pilgers" Snow, in which he said they now had "proof positive" (his actual words, never forgot them) of Assad's "torture hospitals" in Homs.
There then proceeded a video showing a few beds and medical looking detritus and I think some "medical employee" saying how bad it all was.
The video segment concluded with a disclaimer that none of the video or statements could be "independently verified"...only a couple of minutes after being told it was "proof positive".
I remember this very well as I wrote a short email to Six Pilgers about it, asking him how something that could not be independently verified could be "proof positive" and why he thought it was ok to say that in the headline of the programme.
What can be independently verified however, is that I never got a reply.
