I thought this was a more balanced (and much more informative regarding how Syrians are feeling as opposed to the geo-political scheming) take than parts of Vanessa Bealey's recent interview, particularly the absurdly rose-tinted "we all danced around the Christmas tree, it was glorious" nonsense.
