If you didn't know any better, you'd think that Baldwin's words were innocuous. I think you do know better than that.

Surely it's not necessary to post up evidence of Baldwin's bloodthirsty past statements about Israel. Surely, if we are talking about someone or something that we are all familiar with, we don't need to provide helpful little backgrounders before we say something. I assume that readers on this unusually literate and intelligent forum would be able to appreciate the brutal hypocrisy of his words, already knowing something of the nature of the man.

Your beetle-browed dismissal of my post --- "Why is this here?"--- was the sort of humourless and baffled response I'd expect from a deliberately obtuse and complacent desk jockey on a Grauniad comment thread.
