Canadian MP slams ‘criminal gang’ in Washington, DC

Charlie Angus, a Canadian lawmaker with the left-leaning New Democratic Party, has slammed the Trump administration as a “criminal gang” that tells Canadians they “do not have a right” to their own country.

Angus was referring to repeated comments from Trump pushing for Canada to become the 51st US state.

“Our neighbours are no longer our allies. We are dealing with a regime next door to us that is ignoring the international rule of law, and we have to take this dead serious,” Angus told reporters during a news conference in Ottawa.

Canadians have overwhelmingly rejected Trump’s remarks about making Canada part of the US. There is also widespread anger and concern over the US president’s push to impose steep tariffs on Canadian goods, which could devastate the country’s economy.
