I haven't heard any commentary on Donny's tariff bombshell that really drills down to what his long term strategy/plan is apart from attributing to him a general incompetence and economic illiteracy, in a way accepting at face value his stated aims for taking the actions he has taken. Even from trusted and respected sources posted on this board this seems to be the view as well as some vague speculation as to his wider objectives. I was chatting to an American friend yesterday whose political outlook is generally a democratic socialist one with sprinklings of shitlib talking points. He said something I hadn't heard or thought of before...that Donny wants to carve up Europe between himself and Russia, whereby Western Europe becomes even more of a colony than it already is, while domestically he is going to start a major war somewhere so he can suspend the constitution to enable himself and his progeny to remain in power indefinitely. A new Emperor enacting a new form of feudalism and colonialism. This is much darker than I ever feared from him but it was difficult to find any reasons why this view is unrealistic. Time will tell. Chris Hedges attributed a kind of incompetence to Trump, stating God help us if a competent dictator comes to power as is likely in the States. Maybe he's much more 'competent' than thought of and the dreaded time is already upon us? |
