I'm in the habit of scanning several news channels to see which stories the corporate media is focusing on and how they are treating them.

GBN News is of course the far-loony-right platform for nutters, so we know what to expect. They excelled themselves last night. Three "commentators" were trying to outdo one another with lame quips and sarcastic pit-downs. The idea is to treat nothing seriously and to be the top clever arse in the room.

Gaza came up, with images of packed crowds holding out empty pots and pans for water and food. The three contributors expressed doubt and scepticism that these were genuine, one of them saying he'd seen images of a "dead" person who scratched his nose. Another said he could see expensive phones held by some in the crowd and that "many of them look overweight so they can't be starving". Given what is happening there on a daily -- hourly -- basis, these quips and comments were down there in the very pits of human degradation. Trying to make light of and crack jokes about a captive population under missiles and bombing attacks. It would be hard to think of anyone with a shred of feeling making such comments.
