I know t was being ironic, but I was immediately reminded of the Chagos islands and how the british soldiers gassed the islanders' dogs with the implied threat that they would be next if they didn't board the boats. Found this remarkable eyewitness report:





'Chagossian Bernadette Dugasse speaks powerfully about her memories of her family's pet animals being brutally and publicly killed under instructions of the British administration.'

'When they deported us they gassed our pet dogs in front of us. Our parent didn't want to go. When they are gassing the dog, and they are feeling the pain of the dog, they dying, then my parents have a meeting and say, "Okay they are doing that to the dogs - then it will be our kids. So we are scared for our kids, so we have to leave."

And now in England they are adoring their pet
dog, have laws... and when I hear about that my heart, as a child what they did to my pets make me feel enraged against them, make me hate dogs.'

I bet the perpetrators slept like babies afterwards too... I think in their hearts every british citizen knows sh!t like this happens every day, all over the world, in order to keep the imperial centers fed, and their related privileges (such as they are) rolling in. Unfortunately the vast majority lose equally little sleep over it and will only be aroused by the threat of those privileges being taken away.

Of course I would be delighted to be proven wrong!
